Puerto Rico’s growing air cargo industry recently took stage at the Supply Chain and Logistics Summit organized by the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA). During the event, The Governor of Puerto Rico, Honorable Jenniffer González Colón, accompanied by the DEDC Secretary and the Executive Director of the Ports Authority, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to advancing this sector as a strategic priority.

In her address, the Governor emphasized the untapped potential of Puerto Rico’s logistics and manufacturing industries. She highlighted the critical need for an efficient supply chain to complement the island’s robust pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing sectors. The Governor also shared several initiatives aimed at enhancing Puerto Rico’s role as a global air cargo hub, including:

  • The creation of Puerto Rico’s first Air Cargo Task Force, designed to align industry stakeholders and drive collaboration.
  • Ongoing discussions with the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to position Puerto Rico as a facilitator for air cargo transshipment.
  • Plans to invest in infrastructure improvements, particularly at Aguadilla Airport (BQN), to expand warehouse capacity and extend the runway.
