Who we are

The Puerto Rico Life Sciences Air Cargo Community works together to ensure that Puerto Rico is the best quality airfreight hub in the Americas and to act as a voice of the industry with legislators.

The Community is supported by the Puerto Rican Department of Economic Development (DDEC) and brings together airlines, airports, forwarders, integrators, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, ground handlers, and hauliers.

The Community’s Board drives the initiative and includes Community members as well as the DDEC, Invest Puerto Rico, the Industry University Research Center (INDUNIV), Aerostar Airport Holdings, and the Port Authority of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is the number one bioscience manufacturing hub in the U.S. by export volume, and twelve of the world’s 20 top-grossing pharmaceutical companies, including Johnson & Johnson, Roche, and Abvie operate on the island, with eight of the 15 globally top-selling biopharmaceutical products manufactured in PR.

Twelve out of the top 20 medical devices companies have manufacturing sites on the island, including Medtronics, CooperVision, and Boston Scientific, manufacturing products such as pacemakers and implantable defibrillators, surgical instruments, lab devices, dental equipment, and vision correction.

Board of Directors

The Community Board includes representatives from the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) and Invest Puerto Rico, as well as the Industry University Research Center (INDUNIV), Aerostar Airport Holdings, and the Port Authority of Puerto Rico.

Board members are elected for a one-year term and meet every two months to agree on projects and topics to communicate to the logistics industry, as well as to legislators and authorities.

The community itself convenes twice a year for group meetings organized by the board.

Our vision

We aim to drive sustainable, state-of-the-art life sciences air logistics by ensuring quality throughout every stage of the shipment journey. The community is committed to ensuring seamless operations and processes as goods move throughout the region.

Core activities

The core activities of the community include the creation and maintenance of quality programs, intermediary action between legislators and industry members, data sharing between community members.

The promotion of high-quality standards plays a vital role in the community and its day-to-day operations. The reputation of Puerto Rico’s airfreight hub is paramount, and the community takes active steps to ensure rigorous quality control standards throughout the supply chain.

The community intermediary action aims to support the growth of the life sciences industry, aiding in problem solving and support to community members when issues arise.

Partnerships

The Puerto Rico Air Cargo Community is supported by the Puerto Rico Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) and Invest Puerto Rico (InvestPR).

InvestPR works to elevate Puerto Rico as a world-class business destination. The organization is governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors appointed by the Governor of Puerto Rico and is comprised of three public sector representatives and eight private sector representatives.

InvestPR’s mission is to promote Puerto Rico as a competitive investment jurisdiction to attract new business and capital investment to the island.

Both InvestPR and the DDEC work together as foundational members and partners of the Puerto Rico Air Cargo Community.
